Micro Monday #5: “furniture’s revenge” by Jay Goldin

sunlight awakens the slumbering couch
bringing to a boil its simmering rage
likewise the carpet, the tables and chairs
on this bloodied and corpse-strewn stage
the bookcase, desk, and the sentinel lamps
all have their roles this fearful day
but there's no telling in advance
who they'll spare and who they'll slay
the bed meanwhile waits in the wings
ready to deal the coup de grâce
coiled springs of hate indifferent to
the hideous anguish and grievous loss
