Me, upon receiving your fantastic and horrific work.

THEMED SUBMISSION CALL:

THEME: Horror in the Mundane

ENDS: October 1st

We are extremely excited to announce that our October issue will be themed as Horror in the Mundane! The call ends October 1st, so get your stories in before then.

There are a few ways one could describe this subgenre, but, at its core, Horror in the Mundane is a subgenre of horror fiction that creates anxiety, fear, and dread from typical situations and/or objects, most often leading into a sense of threat. In many cases, the very nature of reality is thrown into question. The fragility of safety and sanity, apprehension along with the unsettling nature of day-to-day life- you get it. Show us what you've got.

The Dread Literary Review is always open for submissions for weekly shorts and monthly magazines. We publish poetry, flash fiction (under 1k words) and short fiction (up to 5k words).

Please submit your work as a word doc or a .pdf to thedreadliteraryreview@gmail.com. At this time we are not able to offer payment for work, but fingers crossed for the future!

Simultaneous submissions are okay. Previously published work is also okay, so long as you retain the rights to your work. Our writers and poets retain their rights to this work, we only take rights to one-time internet publication.

Cover letters are encouraged, even if you just want to talk about your favorite scary movies. At least give yourself an author bio detailing where you’re from.

AI will never be permitted.

We will always respond with either an acceptance or a rejection, so please be patient with us as we read all of your submissions.

Please note that the Dread is a literary magazine for horror and speculative writing. Writing in other genres will not be considered for publication.
